Well I ordered it this morning and it hasn't shipped yet. I called and left a message and e-mailed them so maybe they can cancel the order or at least change it to a .47 cap. grrrr
 
Thanks guys. Is there any way to test the board before I actually get the tunze? like hooking it up to a 12v battery? Or some kind of battery?

That should work. The components for this project should have at least 15v and up. If something is rated at 500v it means it can handle 5v, 12v, etc but not the other way around.

If you are going this route I suggest you just get the Tunze 6091 controller and build the box, then buy the Stream. Without an actual stream, it is somewhat difficult to test.

Can you believe this... I just saw a REAL TUNZE WAVEBOX this weekend for the FIRST TIME ever. Yes, In real life. I have never seen these face to face (only videos) and now that I've seen one in person I'm somewhat disappointed :( It just doesn't make THAT much of a wave however I tweak the 6091 controller. I was able to find the "sweet spot" of this tank but the waves are still weak.......

That's what WE want! The bigger the better. One night I came home and there's splashes everywhere around the tank... lol It was INSANE. The wife wasn't too happy. :D

Anyways, you're right- you can use a smaller pump or an easier solution is to tune down your Tunze's blue controller box.

Its just the line of Tunze's pumps that everyone is using.
 
ohhhh... ok thanks! How long have you guys had your wave-boxes running? Are they durable? Also, I will be using Valspar plastic paint to paint my box. The guy at Lowe's said its the same as Krylon Fusion. Is it necessary to sand the entire box prior to painting it? I've heard that the paint wont bond correctly if the surface isn't sanded.
 
I sanded mine, and the paint is still solid to this day.

Mine ran for about 6 months straight with no problem. I had to remove it when I switched to a 67g shallow tank because I needed more space. Now it just sits somewhere in the garage. Being "durable" depends on how you lay out your circuit and how well you soldered the connections.
 
Thanks xtm. I've never soldered anything before, but I hear that on the underside you have to make a "line" of solder for certain parts. Could you explain that? Also, I've heard that you have to scratch off some of the brass rings in certain areas, maybe to prevent a short. Any input?
 
ok, trying to do preliminary layout for a future build, i have a simple question....you list the box dimensions as 5 x 4.5 x 11, so looking at it from the front w/ the pump facing you is that 5" side to side or front to rear??

guess the simple thing would be just to make it 5" square...... LOL
 
Questions:

1) My tank is 48" x 20" x 12". Is a 6100 suitable? If not, will the 6055 work? It looks quite a bit different from the 6100 and I don't know if the schematic and components will be the same. http://www.tunze.com/details.html?&L=1&C=US&type=&user_tunzeprod_pi1[prodid]=6055.000

2) Is the wave going to cause my tank to BREAK??? It's a glass tank, only 3 years old. Should I brace the sides or something?

3) Where are you guys finding these used pumps? I looked on eBay and didn't see any.

4) The owners manual for the 6100 states "In continuous operation, the switching frequency may not exceed twenty-four times in twenty-four hours."
and this is WITHOUT the DIY controller. So how long is this thing going to last? Or did I misunderstand the manual?

1. 6100 should be fine, the 6055 uses the same controller
2. I've not heard of any tanks actually breaking from wave box it's basicly a disclaimer by Tunze

3. either E-bay or the selling forum here on RC

4. the non controllable pumps 6060, 6080 are not meant to be turned on and off on mare then you stated above, controllable Tunze's are just fine.
