Do Acans Encrust Or Get Bigger Polyp By Polyp?

I have an Acan and was wondering if I should attatch it to the rockwork if the answer is that they encrust. Right now its on a frag square on the bottom of the tank.

I bought about a year ago a 2 headed Acan, right now it has over 20 heads easy and never encrusted !! I just super-glued it to a rock at the bottom.

They do encrust but they dont have to be on the rock work unless you want them to be

I started with a 2-3 head piece and now have about 50+ (see my avatar). It has never encrusted. It simply grows new heads and slowly branches out.

More heads will grown from the margins, and as the skeleton expands it forms itself to the rock. I wouldn't say they encrust like some other corals do, but for all practical purposes it has the appearance that it's one with the rock.

My branching duncan which started with 2 heads and now has 12-15 is encrusting very slowly. In the time its grown this bigs its just finally got the plug mostly encrusted.
