Do air-stones go bad?

I noticed a newly setup QT getting a little cloudy. There are no fish in it and fresh water was added yesterday when I set it up. Yet today the water is all cloudy. I have a HOB foam filter and a air-stone in the tank. Would the air-stone cause the water to get cloudy? It's probably a year old and I've noticed cloudy water before when being used but never attributed it to the air-stone.

I've never really thought about it before. They are so cheap I've always just tossed them after I'm done with them and use new next time.

They are usually made of compressed sand/glass, so don't really wear out unless they crumble.

You might just be having a bacteria bloom in a cycling tank.
