Do all Onyx clowns

have three bars? I'm planning on buying some from Rod when he can start shipping. I ask cause he sell's some with two bars. will they develop a third bar later or does it vary? thanks

It varries. You can ask him for ones with the 3rd bar starting to come in that way you will know you will at least have some of the 3rd bar.
Go thru the 50-60 pages on "rods onyx" here & look at some of them.

Varies between fish. Not all will develop all their bars and will give you somewhat misbarred patterns which are still very beautiful. the third strip is beginning to fill in on my female shes about 6 months now. still no third stripe on the male ill post pics as soon as i figure out how haha. but yeah take a look at the hundreds of posted pics. a good guy to check out is GSMguy he has an adult pair and both are fully striped from what i remember

right on thanks. yeah i'll check out rod's onyx forum here, and look at the other pages i haven't seen yet. as for smaller clowns, babies and what not. can you see the third bar forming or tell that they're going to have one? or does that vary too? as for posting pics Tofumushrooman I would definately subscribe to photobucket, its free and super easy to use and post pics.

I have a pair of Rod's. When I got them they did not have their 3rd stripes, but they do now. My favorite clowns for sure!

You can see a light shading on some of rods onyx before the 3rd stripe comes in, some you wont see anything till it comes in. Its really a gamble if you get one without a 3rd stripe at all.
