Do I have enough light/room for any clam?

I currently have 285W (3 x 36" bulbs, 2 daylight, 1 actinic) of VHO lights over a 30 gallon tank. I am just wondering if there are any clams out there that I have sufficient light and room for them to do decent.

I have other things that I need for the tank first, namely some more and better water testing stuff, and it has only been set up for 3 months anyway, so there are no clams in my immediate future, I am just wondering if it will even be possible sometime down the road with what I have.

I would think you could have most types. You seem to have sufficient lighting. I'm assuming it is a 30 gallon long.

The biggest thing with maxima's and crocea's is they like intense light, such as that from metal halides. There have been successful tanks with people using flourescents and keeping croceas and maximas.

I'd say in about 6-8 months give a derasa a try and see how it does.

Agreed....a derasa, squamosa, or hippopus would likely thrive. A maxima might be fine, but I personally don't put them under anything than MH.

Thanks guys!!

Yes, you are correct in assuming it is a 30 long, so it really isn't very deep. Once the tank is a little more established and I have all the equipment that I want, and probalby some more live rock, I might try one out.

Maybe a Christmas present for myself!
