Hey everyone,

do I have to use a calcium reactor if I want to keep sps corals or clams. I really don't want a co2 tank in my dining room. any advice is greatly appreciated. if there is another method, please paste some links so I can learn.

Yes! Not really. I do because it regulates and maintains ph and calcium. As long as you change the same amount of water with the same mix at a consistant rate, you will never need to touch a calcium reactor once you get it set. Once your stonies get big, they will need more calcium, but for the most part a reactor is idiot-proof - which is exactly what I need.

Oceanic has alot of calcium. I know people that use it and add no other additives.

No, you do not. But you will need to add calcium, Alk, and magnesium by dosing regularly. Remember, stability is the key with SPS...which is one reason why people go to Calcium and Kalk reactors to maintain somewhat constant Calcium/Alk values....with little to no swings in water parameters.

If you dose 2 part additives get your hands on some used medical IV dosing pumps (check ebay) and have a constant drip into your system to maintain steady levels.....

I agree with neptune. Two tubs in the basement, two dosings pumps, one good quality interval timer, and your two part could be added every hour.... The amount could be ajusted with the turn of a dial. Your magnesium you could just add as needed. Think about it. Make diy 2 part 35 gallons at a time. Way easier than a reactor that drops ph. And cheaper. About 400$ and you would have the top of the line equipment!
