Do I have too many fish?

Ok so I know this has been asked plenty of times and there is not a for sure answer but I want some inputs before I do anything else.

Here is my tank specs:(related to my question)
75 gal w/ 40 breeder as a sump
250 gal rated skimmer
About 70 - 80 lbs of rock
All SPS but most of them still in frag plugs
2-3" sand bed

Fish:
2 O.Clown fish
1 Six Line Wrasse
1 hippo tang (about 2-3") will upgrade by the time he is full grown
1 Powder brown tang (About 3") will upgrade by the time he is full grown

Now my question is, I want to add an algae blenny as my LAST fish for this tank.....do you think I have too much already or will the blenny be ok?

In a separate question, I know algea blennys eat algea of course, but I have 2 big turbo snails that have gotten pretty big, and LOVE algea, will the introduction of the blenny hurt the 2 turbos or am I over thinking the whole thing.

Thanks guys.

Add the lawnmower blenny and remove the tangs since shouldn't be in a 75 anyway.

I disagree with this if you truly are planning an upgrade in the next 12 months. Two 2 or 3 inch tangs will live a happy life in a 75 for a bit. IMO you have room for the fish you want. Please do upgrade or get rid of the tangs by the time they get to 4 to 5 inches. They start to cover alot of ground fast as they grow.

thanks silverfly....sometimes those comments are what keep good people from forums, the minimum size for those tangs is 70 gal by any website, I dont what to turn this thread into that aargument, to answer your question i will either go for 150 (6 feet long) or 8 feet long not sure, depends on the wife you know...thanks shane

I have a very happy yellow tang in my 75. Has been there for about a year and is happy as can be.

I say put what you want in your tank. Its up to you to decide when fish are too big / tank is too small.

I have the tang, two yellow tail damsels, two oci clowns, two cardinals and an engineer goby.....and I'm off to the store to buy more fish today....

As long as water params are good and you don't think it looks over crowded, I say your are good.

Also, Oct '09 TOTM is a great example of what CAN be done....31 fish in an 80 gallon SPS dominated tank....

I dont mean to sound rude, and I'm sorry if it came off that way, but IMO, people should upgrade THEN get appropriate fish, not the other way around. I can't tell you how many times I've hears "oh, I'll upgrade", only to never see that upgrade happen.

Any site that says a 70 is a minimum tank size for a hippo is just flat out wrong. I can publish on my website that you can keep a dolphin in your bathtub, but that doesn't make it so...

Go for the blenny, he will be fine. You should have plenty of algae for 2 turbos and a lawnmower blenny in a 75 gal. He will also pick some of the plant based foods you will be feeding your tangs off the rocks.

Yes go for it! Great fish! What about a sea hare?
Ignore the tang police. Your fish will be happy til you upgrade. When you do- post pics!

Add what you want. If & when you upgrade move the tang or see if you can trade him for something else. I think way too many people listen to the "Tang Police" too often. Enjoy your tank (it is yours) just try not to do it to the detriment of the fish.

Oh come on dude, play the "compare it to a human living in a 10x10 room" card. Thatll teach 'em!

btw, the op didnt ask your oppinion obout his tangs. He asked about adding a blenny.

Yes, and I gave my opinion on how he could add it...

I'm certainly not the 'tang police', but IMO there shouldn't even be one tang in there, much less two. It's my opinion, that's all. I didn't say he was a bad person for having them, or imply that they're suffering terribly, or predict doom and gloom because they're there, I just said I didn't think they should be. The OP is entiltled to do what he wants, and I'm entitled to my opinion.

I REALLY DONT UNDERSTAND(AND I'VE SAID IT BEFORE)-sorry caps on-lol-
why we can take tangs from the ocean and then act so high and mighty about their welfare. I believe we shouldnt be cruel to our fish anmd an 8 inch tang in a 75g just isnt right, but they are small tangs and hes gonna upgrade in the future, He knows he has to do this and i believe he will. The question wasnt about his tangs! Great site but i'm getting very tired of this negativity. I know you tang guys mean well but next time you look at your tang swimmin g up and down your 12ft 1000 gallon tank think to yourselves-you used to live in a 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000g tank didnt you? You could go where you wanted, you could swim for miles if you wanted to.
I love this hobby as i've said before but a fish is a fish! Could be food for someone.--would that be more justified?
I dont agree with cruelty and i think if a fish is kept alive in captivity it should have enough swimming room-which it has for now-but for christ sake let this guy enjoy his tank! Hes gonna upgrade soon. Lets be friends and have a helpful and friendly forum.
Enjoy your tanks!

Yeah, we're all "gonna upgrade"

Do whatever you want. I'm sorry I have a (well supported and accepted) opinion. Have fun.

BTW, for the record, I'm not one of those 'tang guys'. I can assure you that in my 4000+ posts, never have I admonished anyone for having any tang in any particular tank.

By all means, let's let the OP enjoy his tank and whatever livestock he chooses. I just think things would go better without the tangs in there. That is all.

I think you can add the blenny and a few more fish in there and when the tangs get to 6-8" then it's really time to move them to a bigger tank but for now I don't see any reason to take them out.

Really? Because thats exactly what you did on your very first post in this thread.

Ha, ha!
Luther, i like you!
phurst-if he says hes gonna upgrade you have to believe him or this site falls apart. Isnt this all built on trust? Not that the tang issue was what he was asking about.

Back to the orig post-
do you think an algae blenny will sort out your GHA problem or do you just like the fish. I only ask because if it is GHA, therev are other steps we can help you with to overcome the problem. Please post and and dont be put off this great website by any off subject remarks. Reef central has saved me and my tank a fair rew times!

Well i see it both ways, i agree that a tang shouldn't be in a small tank and should almost always have a 6ft tank for swimming. They are of smaller size which is alright for now but you must upgrade or trade the fish in when they are getting 4"+

You have no problem adding the blenny IMO, and should do great. Just be careful though because tangs can get agressive over the tank they live in very quickly, and sometimes will pick on a fish just because they can. HTH and good luck with the tank buddy!

OK, I'd like to apologize to the OP and everyone else in this thread. This has been something of a sore subject for me lately. We have a new member in our local club who has a 29 gallon tank, and in it there is currently a foxface, a yellow tang, a powder blue tang, a gold rim tang a pair of clowns and a variety of chomis and damsels. In the last 3 months he has also had a different yellow, a powder brown, a naso, a kole, 2 hippos, a sailfin and is currently looking for an achilles or something. He refuses to listen to club members or anyone else, and just keeps replacing tangs. He insists to texting me whenever he gets a new (usually grossly inappropriate) fish, and it has me really bent out of shape. I'm sorry I took my frustrations out on other people. I promise, I'm not usually one of those 'tang people' :)

FWIW, I agree that the tank is not overstocked, and the blennie would be a very cool addition. Just make sure you get one you see eat at the LFS. Lawnmower blennies are one of those fish that occasionally refuse to eat in captivity.
