Do I need a heater?

It's been low 80's all week and I just filled my 46bowfront up. The thermometer said that the tank was 75degrees. I'm a little worried, but I know I'm going to be putting fans in the hood because I'll have 5wpg in the tank and need to air it out for sure. My question is: I know I won't be needing a heater, but should I just go ahead and buy a small one? I don't need a 250 watt heater adding to the tanks electricity bill if it's only going to be using 50 watts to heat since the tank is at an ideal temp as it is.

Hi you should at lest keep a smaller watt heater to mantain you water temp at 75 degrees this is ideal for most seahorses

It's always wise to have a heater on hand but your tank temp depends on what species of horse you are keeping.
Differant species have differant temp requirements.

The heaters I use do not heat the water unless the water falls below the set temperature. I have mine set for 72F. I like my tank to run under 74F at all times for bacteria reasons. Personally i think heaters are a good thing in most climates, although depending on where you live you might not need one. It is best to keep the temps stable, to large of swings are detrimental to the seahorses health.

Tropical seahorses can handle temps down to 69 without issue IME. Even at 69, we still see mating activity.
