Do i need a new membrane?

I've heard if they dry all the way out they go bad. You might wait till you get it hooked up and see what your TDS reading is before and after the membrane to see if it still works before you order a new 1.

If it has been dry it is best to get a new one. They usually go bad or will go bad shortly after you start using it again.

By the time you buy new filters and membrane for it, you will have spent almost as much as a new one I think.

You should also look into getting a DI stage to go with that.

it comes with two new filters a carbon and sediment and i didnt want a di unit i was told it over strips the water

Strips the water of what?

You wouldn't want one if you were using this for drinking water, but for water for a tank, I would make sure to have a DI unit.

That is an issue for freshwater tanks. For saltwater tanks you want completely clean water. It's no worry losing the salt content because we are adding back way more salt than that when we mix up the water.

For a saltwater tank you definitely want a DI stage to make sure you don't end up with phosphates in your new water.

What membrane should i get? and could i find one for under $50? I only need to filter 5 gallons a week for my 10% water change.

I'd pay the extra few bucks for the 75 GPD that has the 98% rejection rate. You could probably get a 35 GPD for lets say $30 and a 75 GPD is like $35 so for the extra 5 dollars you can make twice the water in case of an emergency.

Could you send me a link to these?
