Do I need a protein skimmer.

In my new 90g tank, I am pushing 3060gph and that's 34 times my tanks volume which is working out very well for me.

Thanks to all for the input....It is much appereciated. I will take the advice and add at least one more MJ 900....I wish I could add more however between the skimmer, the filter (both HOB) the one pwer head, heaters and LR I am almost out of room on the back of the tank....Is there any problem with mounting one of the MJ's down about 8 inches?

Since adding my new light (MH 150) and the one MJ 900 my coral already looks 100% better and almost fully "blooms" during the day. I will try to post pictures later this week....

Thanks again for the info....

I just wanted to add that instead of using distilled water, (possibly distilled on metal coils) you should buy the "filtered drinking water." It probably says produced by Reverse Osmosis on the bottle. That's the stuff you want. Should be the same price. Also if the grocery store has a fill it yourself RO, that will likely save you money. The grocery store here was charging 39Ã"šÃ‚¢ a gallon. You have to tote empty jugs, but that's better for the environment anyway right?

Glad to hear your tank is doing better, you will find that the big penguin filter you have is not really needed, just get a smaller one and run Carbon through it to help clean and take any contaminents out of the water. That is really the only reason to run the filter, and that is to run carbon, because your LR is your filter for your tank.
