???

ohh really,,,that tropic marine dip is the same one i use for sps,,,,so they both can dip at the same stuff?? thanks

Yes, I believe so. It is an iodine dip like lugol's or other manufactured types. So it should be good for any corals that aren't sensitive to iodine. Just my $.02

Do you need to? No.
Do some think it's a good idea? Evidently ;)
Do I dip? No.

Several valid reasons to dip. If your dipping with TMC, or Lugols, the theory of dipping is to fight off any potential infection, whether its from a rough shipping transit or an accident in the display where it incurred damage to the skeleton and/or tissue . Or if the specimen appears to already be battling infection, such as 'brown jelly'. Such dips may be usefull, and many have claimed their use a success. Some have not had success with the product as well.
FW(not Lugols!) dips are used prevent most unwanted hitchhikers and predatorial varments.. such as mantis shrimp, crabs, many nudibranchs including zoa eating nudibranchs, but does NOT work for montipora eating nudibranchs/eggs and redbugs/eggs.

redbugs don't have eggs.

That's beside the point:rolleyes: As none of the above kills redbugs anyway..

I have to agree with justin74 on this. Dipping really isn't needed in most situations. I think having a second tank setup is the best option. I have a 20g tank setup all the time for this purpose. New corals live in the tank for about a month before they enter the display. I don't use any treatments I just observe. Keeping an eye out for crabs, nudibranch, possibly damaged areas where infection may occur, etc... If all goes well they'll enter the display. If it doesn't a fresh water dip maybe necessary. If infection sets in lugols or some other treatment maybe a good idea. I really don't care for the idea of dipping corals immediately after receiving them. They're already stressed and I'd hate to stress them out even more.

My sentiments exactly. Even with infectious coral I dont dip with Lugols anymore for this very reason, and only feel this way after losing the coral anyway after I dipped it with Lugols. So for me, it's apparent that it could be successfull by reading that so many do it successfully, but just as apparent that it doesnt always work, or in my case.. ever worked.. Ive had 3 successful removals of brown jelly (where Lugols would be recommended) by simply syhponing the infection off and blowing any dead tissue off(in a bucket as not to spread).

If you research about redbugs though you'll find there is no reason for any concern or confusion regarding dipping every coral or even every sps for that matter. First off redbugs are obligate to Acropora. But whether they have eggs or not is irrelevant in this Forum and especially this thread! ;)

so in the case that i don't know and never see any bug or what ever ugly stuff that may come with coral,,,then i should dip them all ,,,just in case,,,also i have only one tank so,,,anyway,,tahanks all,,,

I dip all my corals, for a 7 dollar bottle of TM dip that will last, vs. all the money and extra time i would spend if something happened. Better be safe than sorry. Here is the description straight from the box.

In many aquariums, parasites and microbial diseases can appear on new corals especially Acropora corals that are weakened and stressed by transport. Due to the lack of natural enemies, these parasites and diseases propagate and spread quickly in the aquarium. Since they are almost invisible to the naked eye the parasites are only perceived when damage is already substantial.

Therefore it is recommended to preventively treat all newly purchased Acropora corals with PRO-CORAL CURE and to apply PRO-CORAL CURE to all corals which have been attacked by flatworms. Treatment is done by a bath of 10-15 minutes.

Besides flatworms PRO-CORAL CURE is also effective against parasitic sea spiders (Pantopoda) and microbial diseases.

Tropic Marin PRO-CORAL CURE is a highly effective iodine preparation against parasitic flatworms that can be found on corals, especially Acropora.

Again, Better safe than sorry!

This is my opinion just getting it out there. People do things different.
