Do I need to target feed my fire shrimp?

I've got a fire shrimp in a 65gal mixed reef tank. As fun as it is to hand feed him (he'll climb out on your hand to get food) its also kind of inconvenient because his favorite cave is 18" down from the surface. So my question is, do I need to target feed him, or will he just scavenge?

agreed. Just make sure enough food is getting to it when you feed your fish. If he's not bothered by your tank inhabitants he'll get what he needs.

I say feed him when you think about it. They are shy by nature. By getting it used to you and the baster you can get it out more often & easily when you want to look at it or show it to people. Kids always go onhh aaaaa when they see them appear for first time.

But yea target feeding is optional as long as there are a few scraps available.

Honestly I think its rare that he catches food. He's 18" down from where the action is, and my tang eats everything...
