Do little giant pumps turn themselves off when overheated

Do the Little Giant 4 MDQ-SC pumps shut off when too hot? That is what the thermal protection means right?

Not sure but mine runs hot to touch. You cant keep your hand on it for more then 3-5 secs, been like this for 2 years. I make sure nothing is touching it. But yes I assume that is what it means.

Same here 2.5 years and can't keep a finger on it for more then 3 seconds. Its good to know must be normal for heavy loads.

I had a 3 series for 8+ years and it always ran hot like your. 4 series.

I installed 2 fans to keep it cool.

You may want to consider this just to keep the pump cool.

Good luck!

The problem with hot pumps is calcification inside the pump housing and excessive wear to the motor. Put a fan on it... I've zip tied heat sinks with thermal past to the outiside of little giants

What kind of heat sinks did you use like from computers? I'm afraid the zip ties would melt?

I have an old Little Giant I keep around just for back-up. I replaced it as my recirc pump because it started to run hot even after being cleaned and oiled. It has over-heat protection and would shut off until it cooled.
