Do mantis always click?

I got a mantis as a hitchhiker. The think was clicking like crazy for weeks when I finally had a chance to catch it. I forced it out of its hole and trapped it with my hands in the corner of the tank. I thought i had squashed it when it escaped back into the tank.

That was about a week ago and I haven't seen it or heard even one click. However, a banggai cardinal I had for two days went MIA and I am wondering if the mantis is still there.

Since I haven't heard anything lately, do you think the mantis would still be alive?

Those gloves must be good if they can stop a blow from a 21oz hammer or a slash from a butcher's knife.

These are the ones I use, they are really thick although they leak a little.

Now you have me scared to put my arm in the tank. Hopefully, the mantis is dead (sorry to all you mantis lovers).

Anyone have an answer to my clicking question? I'd hate to lose any more fish.

I was thinking about using an aquarium epoxy to glue plates/slats of plexy to the gloves. Hopefully, the bonder will work on their surface.

I have a Peacock, as well as a hard hitting G. Tern and a suprisingly hard hitting little G. Chiraga.

you sure it was a mantis and not a pistol shrimp? Not a smart idea to put your hand over a mantis, even with gloves on. They arent called "thumb splitters" for nothing!!

Definitely a 1" long mantis. Two of them came with my TBS rock. I got one of them out but this guy is more elusive.

Should I still hear clicking if it is alive?
