do pods really eat zoas?

Now just noticed they are starting to go after my new radioactives.... and just tore some skirts of my pinkies.... F ' Em'

Got 2 green mandarins to team up with my 1 1/2" 6line to erradicate most of em' ( overboard ) but I did not spend money and trade just to get these zoos to become pod food.

will be trading the other mandarin once the pod population goes down to the point that the 6line and 1 mandarin could keep em in check... ( responsible reefer here )

ONE NOTE THOUGH: The are NOT touching my BIG clump of Huge Green Playthoas....

i dont think they go after palthyzoas(spelling ?) at all . i have'nt heard anyone mention them being targeted by the pods.
i have a huge colony ( heads the size of quarters or bigger)and the pods never touch them.
i thing the palthyzoas might eat them if they touch the skirt because anything that touches their skirts when i feed becomes traped and then eaten.
just my observation...........al

After discovering a stomatella snail in my tank tonight I just happened to look at one of my zoa colonies that were acting weird...and you guessed it. Found pods all over it. I'm going to get a six line tomorrow before it gets out of control.

well, they all but demolished 20+ radioactives left only 3-4 heads for now

wiped out - 2 superman types, greens, bright green, bright orange, dragon eyes other type of greenish zoos.

Mandarin and 6line aren't helping out... thinking about a leopard wrasse?

These are the zoos the left out for now...

I really doubt a pseudochromis will get along with a fully established 6line wrasse... ( first ones in the tank )

I've never mixed the two so I can't say either way. They would probably fare better together than if you added another wrasse. Just a suggestion.

First zoa rock was affected, now my new zoas are affected by these zoa eating pods. Someone mentioned it may be a lack of other food. I run a very clean system and thought this could well be an explanation. But so far its affected both zoa rocks i have added to the new setup.

After posting that I had a few zoanthid colonies eaten by Amphipods, I had several comments that they were an "aggressive" form of Amphipod. I personally feel I have the common Amphipod, but I'll leave it up to you experts to decide. Below is a short video clip of the typical Amphipod that is found in my tank. If you need close ups of certain parts of the amphipod for verification, let me know as I can get good resolution shots. Enjoy!

I have those.. about ave size is 1/2 a CM but have some that are almost a full CM big and those are creating havoc with my zoos... am planning to get a larger wrasse ( leopard ) or something that WILL wipe out the larger pods..

I have a large super fat sixline in my main display. I'm sure he gets his share of pods with the big belly he has, but I don't think they (fish in general) even begin to dent a population of pods. During the day, I'm VERY lucky to see even one....but at night while my fish sleep, there are thousands all over everything! How do you all keep them in check?

Yep, I've experienced this, too.
Though the main problem I've had is with sickly polyps disappearing overnight.
Night time checks found not nudi's but huge amphipods (3/4" easily) chomping away at the base.
They haven't attacked healthy poylps (yet) just ones that haven't opened on a new colony or two.
So I'm not too worried, yet.

My mandarin doesn't seem to get them, as these are the only pods that I ever see in the main tank. They only come out at night when he's sleeping. Hundreds of these big guys, no little ones seen except in fuge.

Check out the Golden Wrasse (aka yellow coris) He eats pods all day long... His belly is always full. He is peaceful in my tank and I have seen him eat the bigger amphipods that my manderin won't eat. I havn't lost anymore rpe's since.

I also noticed this. My safecrackers, rpe, radioactive dragon eyes, dragon eyes, and my eagle eyes of been closed up since last week, some of them are open. But I can tell that something has been eating them from the base of the polyps. I checked last night, and the zoanthids were covered with medium-large pods. I am thinking of adding a Mandarin goby and a Leopard wrasse to solve this problem.

dragon eyes gone, superman ( red with blue ) gone, bright green and bright orange zoos gone. Green with brown almost gone..
radioactives 3 left from 30 plus. over 5-6 colonies with an avg. amount of 30-40 polyps gone... freggin ampipods.....
