Do U Dip corals

Well, after getting warned by Pat and Andrea at ReefLife the other night, I did a thorough searching of my zoa colonies after lights out tonight.

Yep, you guessed it. Right inbetween a couple of closed polyps was a "hairy" little mass that looked like a small polyp was still half-open.
Twern't no polyp at all.
It was the dreaded zoa-eating nudibranch! :eek2:

Out came the turkeybaster, and I spent the next 15 minutes "dusting", scanning, and sucking my zoas.
I pulled out about 10 good sized adults... which means there's probably 10 times that many which I didn't see.

Luckily I bought some dip over at ReefLife when I was there, and already went thru the procedure of figuring out how much of my Alk solution it takes to make a gallon of RO dip solution match my tank PH, so I'm ready to go.

I'm certainly not looking forward to the every other night task of dipping every zoa colony and frag in my tank for the next couple of weeks.
Speaking of which, does anyone know exactly how long the eggs take to hatch?

Apparently with our regular monthly auction it makes it extremely easy to pass on a nudibranch infestation thru juveniles and eggsacks that can't be detected until it's too late.
I for one, will be dipping everything I bring to the auctions from now on as well as dipping and quarantining everything I bring home.

If you have participated or are going to participate in the club auction I strongly advise that you adopt the same strict habits if you haven't already... especially if you're new to reefing like me, and aren't sure exactly what to look for yet.
Also, if you've brought home frags from the frag swap or the auctions and you haven't dipped or quarantined them, then let this be your wakeup call to give your tank and corals a thorough inspection.

Let my headache begin! :(

John dont worry buddy it happens to all of us in due time its just one of those things. I've been very careful over the years and still go tthe bugs-LOL
