do u use the supplied "screen" over impellar?

i stuck the supplied screen (1/4" openings), over outlet on stream...do u guys use this which came w/ my 6000? i think i'm gonna take off...

Did you buy it new or used? They normally didn't come with screens and these were optional. I would use it if you plan to turn the pump off or keep small wrasses. I know they were planning to start including a screen but was not aware they had been added to the package yet.

it's new. i just took it off. i have a 6line but pump really never goes off, and i never see wrasse that high in tank...

...what are they actually for...? isn't it better flow w/ it off?

Well, after getting a few reports we consulted with an ethologist about wrasses entering the pumps and she said that they dart into caves when frightened and they can accelerate fast enough to enter a running pump. They think the pump opening is a cave, especially when it is in a stream rock and the result is wrasse puree. We started working on screens for all the pumps for this reason, the fairy wrasses are the main risk. They do reduce flow and I have only known of a wrasse to enter the pump on 3 occasions.
