Do very young true percs usually have only 2 bars?

I was at my LFS today (Inland Aquatics) and had a look at the juvenille true percs that they would soon have for sale. They had around 20 in there, and most were misbars, over half only had 2 bars, and a few didn't have the black/white stripe around the outside of their tail. I was just wondering if the third bar would come in as they mature. The guy I talked to said that most, but not all, would. I didn't ask how old they were, but they were 1/2" to 3/4" long.

my percs are 10 mo's old and are just now starting to get their 3rd stripe. the largest one is almost an inch long
