I typically wash my hands every time before I stick them in the tank. I have heard that many will not use bare hands at all. What husbandry do you use invloving your hands. For those who wear gloves, what type do you use and where did you get them from?
Sometimes it just gets in the way and I use my bare hands. I wash them and rinse them very well and then dry them off. I also have tongs and long tweezers and things to use rather then sticking my hands in the tank.
The aqua gloves are too bulky to do any kind of fine work. the poly gloves are thin and some water will get inside them but they prevent anything from your skin getting in the water. If I don't have the gloves I just rinse my hands well with water. I have never seen any problems with sticking my bare hands in the water
If u ask me id rather use bare hands, obviously u dont wanna expose your fish to anything nasty but a little bit of dirt wont hurt, all helps them build up a immune system, always wash my hands before tho..
I often stick my hands in the tank b/c the gloves limit you on the amount of work you can do with them. I am much more precise with my bare hands. The only down side is that once I have stuck my hands in the tank my skimmer bubble level recedes due to the oil on my skin. I wash my hands with soap and water and then dry them thoroughly before sticking my hands in the tank.
Wash my hands before, but with no soap, just water. Bare hands in the tank. >>> I knew I touched my frogspawn yesterday with the back of my hand.....I now have about 5-6 itchy bumps there......for the 4th time......
I've always used bare hands in my tank. Just wash them really good with hot water (no soap) beafore putting them into the tank. Prob. should wear gloves but it would be a waist of time and money to just have your hand in the tank for just 5 seconds at a time.....
I've never even thought about wearing gloves. I just wash my hands, usually without soap, or rinse them very good after using soap since I dont want any soap in my tank to kill bacteria.
Even when I had my 10" lion in my 60 gallon I cleaned the algae on the bottom of the tank with a sponge! Just had to heard him over to the other side of the tank before cleaning!
