Steve, I do not check ORP but remember the days after the introduction of the wet dry systems when it was the thing to do along with adding an oxygen reactor.

"Not sure what ORP is" i don't see it much on rc so it is one parameter i don't really know much about. and thanks for the electrical lessons, I now know why fish don't get electrocuted, and last night i was working on the Christmas tree and the flash light came in handy to help me find a one end of an light cord lost in the tree.

Here's an interesting article from Dr Randy Holmes Farley on ORP.

The oxygen reactor will increase ORP. I think most fish deaths are not due to acclimation, but to low ORP levels. Heres a quote from Dr Randy:D
"ORP, at its heart, is very, very complicated. It is, perhaps, the single most complicated chemical feature of marine aquaria that aquarists will typically encounter. It is not hard just for aquarists who are not scientists. I had to learn a great deal about the electrochemistry of natural waters in order to write this article, and had help from a number of other chemists in understanding some of the principles that are usually swept under the rug. "

I have never felt that ORP monitoring offers much benefit. Yes, ORP can be a monitor of tank "health", but there are many other ways to see if anything bad is happening (sensitive fish or corals). Even if you have a meter and see low ORP, it gives you no information to help root cause the problem. In that respect, it is no better than the check engine light in a car.

The cost/benefit ratio of ORP monitoring is simply too low, IMO.

yes, I check ORP but as a guideline for OZONE input and not a water quality

That was the only reason I used it at first plus it came with my AQ system.

Sold the ozone generator and disconnected the ORP two years ago.
