Do you feed your zoo's?

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone here feeds their zoo's and if so could you describe you method, ie do you turn of the pumps, skimmer, etc. What do you use to dispense the food.

Thanks.

Red Devil,

I don't feed my zoas solid food because I've never seen them close on it. I also don't believe in putting that may organics into my water for a coral that shows no response to the food.

I prefer to use a light technique. Give them a lot of light and they will grow accordingly! No matter what else I try to do for my zoas it seems that light and a clean substrate work the best for me.

Well I may have a problem with too little organics, because I run a overpowered skimmer and a large chaeto refugium.

Anyone else?

Thanks.

i dont target my pallys but Ive seen something cool
a few days ago i was staring at my tank and saw a live mysis shrimp swimming in my tank
it was getting blown by my pumps to until it landed on one of my palys polyps
as soon as it touched the polyp the skirts closed and tried to bring the shrimp towards its mouth.also the mouth of the polyp opened more then usuall and i saw it opening
as it was gettin closer the shrimp got out and drifted into the endless possibilities of my tank.
the polyp spreaded its skirts like normal after that.
It was pretty cool
I will try and see if I can target feed it like that

I have heard many things but from what I have seen in my tank my pally's do close up if i give them a light squirt of food. Now I dont know if they are eating it but it is worth the try. And as for my zoa's I spot feed them too but I dont know if this does anything.

Marvin,

Do you target it? Or do you just dump it in the tank? Also do you turn off your pumps. Those ppe in your avatar? Going to be at The Fish Guy Swap? Wish I had something to trade of any value or else I would be there. Of course Im broke so I will have to abstain, eew I hate that word!

to the best of my knowledge zoas generally need nutrient rich waters to do well, now I'm not sure if this means feeding it any kind of phyto or other things but I don't dose my tank at all and my key corals are zoas, which are doing fine, they are multiplying and open wide. I think trying to feed with supplements tend to just reduce the water quality without a absolute idea of whether they eat or not.

just my 2 cents

I don't feed at all and have super growth, but I use collect ocean water. I know it has lots of good stuff in it.

Greenstarman,

Bump or up, is meant to bring the thread back up to the top of the list. So others will see it. Often times so many people are posting on here that when one makes a thread it can easily be missed because most members only skim the first pages worth of threads in a category.

sorry for the delayed response but I just pretty much dump it in my tank.. I normally have the PW on for couple of mins to spread the food but turn them off after and leave them off for 5-10 mins (depending on work load) so all my LPS will get a chance to feed.. most PE's will close up.. dunno if they're eating but they stay close for a bit....

yes, the ones in my avatar are newly acquired PPE's.. :) finally got a hold of some!

hope this helps..

Marvin

I've never fed mine and they've grown quite well and have actually spread off the frag rock and onto the rock that was cradling it.
