Do you have a Reef Tank?

Not Quite Right
Maybe you know someone with one?

Beginning September 13th 2008, S.E.A.S.L. will feature a TANK OF THE MONTH.

We are not looking for the mega-super-stupendous-ultra goodie goodie tanks, we want YOUR tank. It doesn’t have to have a zillion dollars worth of SPS or wall to wall acans, just the tank that you are proud of.

If you have such a tank or know someone who does, let us know and we will contact them about showing it to the club. You can do a full multimedia presentation, a slide show or whatever you want to show it off. If you don’t like speaking to groups, we can help you out there too by presenting your tank for you. We can help with pictures and video too. We are looking for interesting stories, devices and methods. Anything you want to share.

So reply in this thread, on the SEASL.ORG page or just PM me and we can set it up. We only have 9 slots to fill so be sure to get us those names fast.

Hey faz! hows it going? In the next month or two I will have one, but my cameras not so good.... if someone can help me out with that I will try to win :) doubt it tho comeone people show um off!!

The months are filling up fast!

Keep sending those pictures and be sure to do it fast. We still have openings for October 2008 and March 2009. We may do a two in a couple of months if time permits. This is a great opportunity to show the club your handy work and help others find new ideas.

You can feature any saltwater tank with fish only, species only, or reef and anything in between.

I would put our tank in the running if I could keep the coralline under control on the sides of the tank. We have a few fish who think they are supermodels and like to have their picture taken all of the time. Maybe we can be added to the list next time.

Anyone want to go in October?

My victim... I mean volunteer for the OctoberFish meeting has requested a later date, even though I think aptasia are cool.

I have one two words for aptasia: copperband butterfly !!!!!!!!
I had well over 100 heads of the ever ugly aptasia in my tank and within a week he had it all eaten, he fattened quite nicely and has been eating everything else that I throw into the tank on a nightly basis.

Which is my other thing to ponder. I hear people saying that they only eat aptasia not true mine loves mysis shrimp.

If there are only a few and they are smallish, peppermint shrimp will do the trick as well. Get 3 of them and bingo....

We definately have more than a few!!! We have a 300 gallon display tank and they have spread everywhere. I am trying to decide if it would be a good idea to get a copper banded butterfly since it will be hard to catch once all the aiptasia are gone and I don't know how the rest of our fish will react to it. Our tank has been very stable and we have had most of our fish for a couple of years now. Our vlamingi is not always so nice to additions in the tank. We are probably going to get some berghi nudibranches and see how that works. It will take longer, but we won't have to worry about introducing a new fish into the tank.

If you get one, see if the LFS will let you bring in a rock with aptasia on it. Just to make sure it will eat hem. I hear it is hit and miss.

I bought 8 nudi's and I have to say I'm sure if they work or not. I put 2 or 3 of them on a rock with a bunch of aptasia on it and watched as less than a minute later they all three walked right into the middle of the aptasia giving him a nice lunch and a rather expensive lunch on my part. You know the cost of them little guys. Then about 5 minutes later I watched 2 more get munched by some aptasia so I guess I didnt have much luck with my $120.00 investment but you win some and then you loose others, big deal you just move forward. I bought the butterfly it ate all aptasia within 2 weeks and it is a beautiful fish to boot.
