Do you HAVE to keep a calcium reactor?

Hi,

I will have 2 tanks, one will be planted and the othe reef with softies, the reef tank will be 35G and the planted will be 39G. they will have same sumps. the lighting will be 150W MH or maybe 175WMH, still havn't decided. Anyhow, I will want to keep 2-3 small clams in the system, so will I have to keep a calcium reactor for them?

i have three clams and no reactor. i'm dosing two part right now but am thinking of starting a kalk reactor.

the new clam book Giant Sea Clams in the Sea and the Aquarium by James Fatherree is an excellent resource to have if your interested in clams.

You don't need a reactor by any means, but your calcium demand will definitely increase substantially if you intend to place three clams in your system. Two part systems can be done on the cheap now with Randy Holmes Farley's recipie.

i have a 25gal one huge crocea and one baby maxima and i keep all sps and i just dose i use tropic marin bio ca.

I have a 180 with a 6in Derasa and a 2 1/2 Maxima and I dose with B-Ionic.

To me, the Ca reactor is a way to automate Ca addition. The reactor is not necessary because there are other ways of maintaining Ca levels, but that require a little more attention and effort.
