Do you keep hermits with your anemone?

I have heard of quite a few people getting rid of all of their crabs and just going with snails. You'd just want to make sure you get a good variety of snails. Some will eat detritus, some eat algae, and some will eat just about everything. I, personally, have more problems with my turbos bulldozing their way around the tank than I've ever had with my crabs, but that's certainly not everyone's experience with our clawed friends.

Hopefully that AZNO3 works for you. It sounds like people have had good luck with it. I'm betting the anemone will settle down once you get your nitrates closer to zero. I also wouldn't be too worried about it deflating into a crevice. In nature, they actually look for crevices where they can bury their foot so when they deflate, their not hanging out in the open.

Lastly, I've also noticed my crabs (the emerald especially) like to hang out by the anemone sometimes. My large emerald was chilling out underneath the disk just this morning. I've never seen them harm the anemone, but I think it's more of a combination of knowing there tends to be food around possibly for protection (not that they have anything to be worried about in my tank).

Oh, and one really last thing. Maybe someone can back me up here, but I've heard that if an anemone expells its zoozantha. . .whatever they're called, you can actually see it coming out of the anemone's mouth. I've never witnessed this, personally.

Some hermits can pester very small anemones. Obviously, larger ones aren't bothered (and usually just eat the hermits). However, I also don't think that is the problem. It is not the nitrate, because , as an example, the store I work at has had a sebae in that tank (which has been set up for over 15 years) with nitrates over 100 ppm. Unfortunately, my boss likes fish...LOTS of fish. The anemone has just gotten bigger. So you can see nitrate is not much of a factor, IME. It gets difficult to narrow it down sometimes.

I have a Marshall's Island Hermit, and some scarlets and they never even get close to my BTA. But, that my be because my True Perc hosts it.

cg nano.. agree. when my maroon was hosting there wasent a hermit even close lol

my maroon is almost ready to get out of qt, but thats a whole other issue.... my bta looks a million times better since the fish was removed.... it lost all its bubble tips.. as soon as fish was out they came back! I was hoping the bta would settle in a spot and grow a little while the fish was away.... but the fish is growing to lol

amphipron... also agree. my nirtates dont seem to effect her. course, the snails and hermits look fine too. im looking into buying another test kit, i have 2 diff. ones right now and they both read different.

islandcrow.. ya im pretty sure its expelled thru there mouth to, it ended up being more poop, but ive never seen it turn into a golf ball like it did. I know they like crevices and all, i cant really explain what happened, and i couldent get a pick, but it basicly got stuck lol shes looking great today. i threw some shrimp in the tank while i fed her silverslide and that pretty much took care of it. I want to let my fish back in so bad. I was actually looking up rose bta's lastnight thinking maybe i could get a larger one , and then just maybe the maroon would go to that and not destroy the one i have.. but they arent so easy to find. i was suprized. they are even listed as being harder to take care of on some sites. maybe ill make a 'wanted' post. have to think it out tho.
