Do you like bangaii cardinals??

I really liked mine. I had a mated pair. They are not super active swimmers but they were always visible and every once in a while liked to swim up current and take a ride back down it. They would always make this knocking sound and I kept trying to catch them doing it to see if I could figure out how they made it. I like their shape and design paterns. If you have a mated pair they are one of the easiest to breed. The male will keep the eggs in his mouth till they are ready and you just net up them up when he releases them. There's some great threads and articles about them in the breeding forum section.

I wondered about that.
It seemed like that to me, from looking at them in fish stores, but I wondered if they were always like that.

I like mine. Nice filler fish because it just chills, and has a neat look to it. I have noticed it really moves around at night.
i think they are awesome. They provide a nice contrasting shape and different colors opposed to the other fish.
They hover because the area where they are from (bangaii islands) are kind of lagoon like so the water flow is fairly low, you can sometimes see if you set your pumps to max they try their hardest to stay in one spot, so if you are blasting current all through your tank you might want to pass on these fish.

I'm not into them, but if you like them, go for it.
I would recommend getting tank raised, however, even though they are more expensive that wild caught.

I like mine. I have a pair. They spawned a couple of times but the male swallowed the eggs early each time. I love how mine interact with each other. The pair always swims together and they will sometimes twitch and dart across the tank next to each other and make a little clicking sound. I also really like watching them eat, they dart out, snap open their huge mouths and the food is sucked in by a rush of water, and then they immediately dart back to their cover. I even got them to eat out of my hand once!

They definitely seem to be more active when you have a mated pair of them. It was fun watching them suck in pods off the rocks and glass. First time I watch it I thought I was imagining it. I figured they would peck at them like the other fish I have do then all of a sudden the mouth opens and the pod was gone. :lol:

They're neat fish. I ended up with 2 pair out of 6 and they spawn 5-6x/year.

Nice. The pair I got was from someone else trying to get a group of them. I think it was like 6 he started with but these were the last two remaining after they killed off the others. He sold them to me to try again with another group of them. Good for me I guess bad for the new group of cardinals.
I've had a pair for over 3 years. They spawn all the time (just like my Clarkis). I noticed teh first baby last year around March. Then another a month later. Then I found 3 babies in my overflows a month after that. I then gave the tank a complete makeover and all the spawning fish stopped for maybe 3-4 months. Now they are spawning again but didn't notice anymore fry - until 2 weeks ago. I have about 10 this time in the 2 overflows and have been feeding them crushed food. The babies grew to a good size there before with food that naturally flowed into the overflows. The only way I could get them out was to flush them into a bucket. Lost one but had 4 babies at one point. Have the 2 adults and 3 offspring living in the tank since last March-May (looks like one must have been killed off). Be interesting to see how many survive this time.
It's interesting that so many fry make it into the overflows. Shows how many must come from the one batch as most must get eaten. Anyhow, adds a nice little extra dimension to the tank when they spawn and offspring survive.
