Do you like your Seio Rio pump?

I have a tunze on one tank and thought I would try the seio 1100 as a cheaper alternative in another tank. The 1100 was noisy and not much better than a normal powerhead. I sent it back. My tunze has been running flawlessly for over two years. Yes both are big.

I have a Seio 2600 powerhead and it works great in my 120 gallon. It starts up every time and never had a problem with it.

Based on my experience and knowing that Tunze are expensive, I'd go ahead and purchase another. I also had a Koralia #2 but returned it due to chances of it shorting out under water.

I had 2 1100's, used them in my display for 2 weeks, they were way to loud. Had to fiddle with them every time they were powered down.. Replaced them with Tunze. Don't waste your money on any Seio Junk.

me to!! 2 seio 820's replaced with 2 Koralia 3's. I still use my seios--still good pumps by the way. One runs my CPR type oveflow and one stirs up my top off water. The Koralia's just have a better flow pattern, use less energy and look nice.

I have 3 620s in my 58g, have had them for about 2.5 years now, and I run them on a wave maker. Never once had an them not restart. I also have an 1100 on that tank too (on all the time).
Heck I even have an 4 year old Rio 600 in there too. (on wavemaker).

You are surely speaking of the older Rio pumps made by TAAM. The older 2100,2500 etc that were not UL listed certainly had a widespread problem with this. Their newer pumps that are specified as UL listed have not had any problems with this issue. I have yet to hear of a single meltdown issue with the SEIO model of Rio pump either.

IMO you can safely use SEIO pumps made by Rio without fear of this happening. This is coming from someone who lost nearly an entire 75 gallon reef due to an older Rio non UL listed 2500 pump that melted down and nuked the tank with copper and melted plastic and who knows what else.

PLEASE do not confuse the older non UL listed pumps by Rio with SEIO's. They are not the same design and do not have that issue. I would hate to see someone avoid a safe pump design based on older issues with a different model/design. ;)

Well then I guess I cannot comment... ;)

As for my Rio 1400HF, that thing is a piece of _____.
The power is OK, but after about 5mo in the tank, it began to get hot. Eventually it raised my tank temp about 5 degrees.

Dang a 2600 in a 120.. Arent you getting way too much flow... I had 2 1500s and a 2600. I turned on the 2600 then next thing you know most of my sand is in the other side of the tank and the fish could hardly swim in the current.

how do you tell if you have the older ones or the newer ones? I dont have sieos but the normal rios. They are varying ages from 4-2 years old.

ive had my seio 820 for 6 months and it has worked flawless the only thing i dont like are the mounting options i dont know if theres any magnets for the seio like the TUNZE but there probably some mods out there if u dont get 2 mount it how u want.

Yeah, 2600 gph powerhead and ~600 gph coming from the return pump is a lot of laminar/turbulant flow. I have the Seio at the back left corner pointing toward the center of the front wall. It creates a lot of turbulance. I have very fine oolitic sand, and it doesn't get disturbed as long as I don't point it down. My softies and LPS and suffering and my anemone hid under the rock due to the flow. I plan on removing the anemone because it moves everywhere, it's unhappy. On the other hand my monti cap and clam is loving reef life in my tank.
