Do you like your Seio Rio pump?

I use 2 of the 1100's on my 75 and they do a good job of providing heavy but not direct flow. Both of the 1100's are tough to restart when they are shut off and I have to manually push the impeller with my fingers to get it going again. Just cutting power and turning it back on and they will not restart on their own. I have used them both for about 2 years. They run great when on 24/7 but when they are shut off, that is when I hate them. For the money they provide good flow. If they ever stop working completely, I will probably try the MJmod kit instead.

I have 2 1100's that are about 6 months old. They provide very good flow. The downside is that they are very large, and do not always restart. Tunze just weren't in the budget this year. I intend to replace them with tunze at some point.

I've been running 1 SEIO Rio for about a year now without 1 issue. While cleaning, the ceramic impellor shaft broke and they replaced it free of charge.

I just purchased my 2nd SEIO RIO about 2 months ago. I have it on a time and it starts up each and every time without a problem.

I'm running the 12HF & 17HF.

I run 2 of the 1500 in my 125 gallon now for the past 5 months and really like them. No problems restarting or anything.

I think I'd look at the hydor koralia's instead if you can't afford tunzes.
I posted this Q on seio's a while ago and got alot more neg comments on them, mainly restart, but other negs as well.

2 1500s and 2 820s, the 1500s are on the Seio controller and I am happy with their performance. I have had them running now since 9/06.

2 1500's on a 100gal... for over 4 months and thats with plugging them off and on for a good month or so... during feeding etc.... and still going good.

Only real bad thing is that it cant be run like a real wavetimer type PH like a MJ1200.

but I am also reading up on other PH like the Korialis which emits less heat and uses only 10-13watts... like a TUNZE...

I had 2 1500's and 2 610's. I had a 50% failure rate with both sizes in 1 year. In my experience, they are a waste of money and wouldn't recommend them to you unless I really didn't like you.

I have had RIO's blow up and release nasty black stuff in my make up water container and I had to switch containers because the stuff would not come off. If it had happened in my tank I hate to think what would have happened.Plus the fact that they usually will not restart which will kill your tank if you are not home.
I like Aqua Clears. In 20 years I have yet to see one fail in any way. Keep 'em clean and they will literally run forever.

For the 55G tank, how many SEIO pump would be recommended and what models? Please help....

Depends on what you're keeping and whether your tank is BB, or DSB.

You are surely speaking of the older Rio pumps made by TAAM. The older 2100,2500 etc that were not UL listed certainly had a widespread problem with this. Their newer pumps that are specified as UL listed have not had any problems with this issue. I have yet to hear of a single meltdown issue with the SEIO model of Rio pump either.

IMO you can safely use SEIO pumps made by Rio without fear of this happening. This is coming from someone who lost nearly an entire 75 gallon reef due to an older Rio non UL listed 2500 pump that melted down and nuked the tank with copper and melted plastic and who knows what else.

PLEASE do not confuse the older non UL listed pumps by Rio with SEIO's. They are not the same design and do not have that issue. I would hate to see someone avoid a safe pump design based on older issues with a different model/design. ;)
