Shaded parts of healthy Acropora should not lose flesh but just become smooth.
This looks to be acro eating flatworms to me. There looks to be eggs in the middle of the receded part, if so, scrape them off with a knife.
I would dip the coral and blow it off with a turkey baster to see if anything comes off. The flatworms are white and oval shaped (brown in iodine dips).
