Do you think this frag is worth $200?

Could use some help trying to determine the value of this zoanthid that is being offered up by a fellow reefer. According to the owner it is a morph that has grown from a single polyp within his reef. It looks to have 10-12 adult polyps as well as some babies. Please let me know your thoughts, thanks!

It's pretty nice see if he will give u 2 polyps for $50 I personally would want something well known if I'm spending $200 this way if u choose to frag and sell later can re coup some $

It's worth whatever you're willing to pay, it's your wallet... As long as you're going by what they're worth to you and not what you can get for them later then you'll like them either way.

I agree with a couple posts above: With anything you buy, it is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it. It may not be worth that to somebody else though, it could be more or less!

IDK, it is pretty awesome. I would buy a three polyp frag of it, but thats a lot of money for a colony that could melt in your tank. Or morph back hahaha

No, it's not worth $200.

The value is $ 15 to $ 20 max.

This is a macro shot with top down digital photography. Unless you have the exact same lighting, ( bulb number, bulb type, K value and ballast), placed on your reef, away from the front glass, and your tank isn't Starphire glass, there is no guarantee it will even look like this, and remember, it's a super macro pic top/down photo. As someone stated above, it could even morph into something completely different then what you are seeing, it happens all the time. In spite of all of that, there is no guarantee it will even live in your system. Just think about it, perfectly healthy polyps, frags and colonies die everyday and are shared on most every zoanthid forum.......and there goes your $200 and no one is going to replace them for free. Every polyp ever photographed like this is going to be stunning, even dookie browns. Unless you place it on your substrate one inch from your front glass, and you're lucky, you will never see those tiny specks and lines and it will only look like an orange zoanthid. Just keep that in mind.

See post # 17, 18 and 19 in the link below.

That's an awful lot of polyps for half the price.

You resfectfully ask for opinions, and that is my opinion my friend.

Good luck with your decision.

I'm not making any accusations or saying the OP is breaking any rules, but thinking out loud......

This is my 1st time here, and I read this sticky 1st:
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1829557

Now it dawned on me (as a work around), couldn't a potential seller of a frag simply say: "I found this frag being sold by a "friend" and was wondering what it was worth"?

...again, not saying that this is what the OP is doing, but after reading the sticky and immediatley seeing this post, the skepticl in me couldn't help but locate the loophole in the aformentioned sticky (and at risk of tainting a possible totally innocent post)

I would say no- its not worth anywhere near to $200.....but I bet there is someone out there that will pay that rediculous price.....

Originally- that frag cost someone a few dollars.

If someone tried to sell me a coral for $200 i would laugh in their face. I wouldn't pay $30 for that. I enjoy this hobby and most people in it are cool. Someone trying to sell you a coral for $200 is trying to rip you off. They are no longer cool. I would trade a nice or nicer piece of something I grew for that. For $200 I would hook you up with such a nice frag pack you could stock a nano. So basically, if I'm going to spend $200, its going to be on something worth it, like a Vortech or more LEDs. Just my opinion though.
