Do you think this frag is worth $200?

200.00 is the "new kid on the block price" that's what i call it. Anytime a new coral comes out on the market and you want "bragging right's" pay up.....

If someone tried to sell me a coral for $200 i would laugh in their face. I wouldn't pay $30 for that. I enjoy this hobby and most people in it are cool. Someone trying to sell you a coral for $200 is trying to rip you off. They are no longer cool. I would trade a nice or nicer piece of something I grew for that. For $200 I would hook you up with such a nice frag pack you could stock a nano. So basically, if I'm going to spend $200, its going to be on something worth it, like a Vortech or more LEDs. Just my opinion though.

Very well said, +1 on the trading thing too, I love trading nice things for nice things since it's all worth the same :)

Like said above product is only WORTH what the buyer is willing to pay...

Theres no Kelly Blue Book on Zoas.....

I need to disagree on the "Kelly Blue Book" of zoas.

The price of collecting, shipping, and possibly even advertising, along with a little tossed in for aquaculturing, if it happens, minus and a bit more for losses, divided by the number of polyps collected, with a modest mark up should be a "blue book value".

I cant see $200 being a good price for a large frag like that....unless the original collector had a very very bad month.....or someone tried to make a killing, and play the going market, on a slightly above average looking piece of coral.

I do tend to agree a bit with spend what you are willing to spend, but knowing the basic facts of collection/exportation, I can see that frag being anywhere near $200. Seems people have lost sight of how little these corals actually cost, from the beggining, and have let the market or comercialism of the hobby hide the basic facts of what things are really worth, monetarily, to begin with.

I agree my friend. Every single word of what you said is spot on. Seems trading has gone by the wayside.:thumbsup:

That's really nice. For $200, you could frag it out and make your money back with polyps to spare. Those could easily go for $30/polyp if not $50 in the right market.

That's called "chop-shopping" and it's one of the reasons for the time of pricing that you're talking about.

/there's also another level of hell for those kind of people, but I digress.

They sure are pretty. I imagine those would look amazing under LEDs. Though, SoFloReefer did make a good point about getting a vortech instead. That does put things into perspective. ARRRGH! Zoas are like crack!

It's amazing how fast we went from sharing, giving, trading, helping and selling $ 15 frags of anything with 10 to 20 polyps, to chopping for profits and $ 50 to $ 100 per polyp prices.

Yeah Id have a hard time coughing up $200 for any coral. Id buy a couple of polyps at $15 bucks each or whatever, but not the whole shebang for $200

Could use some help trying to determine the value of this zoanthid that is being offered up by a fellow reefer. According to the owner it is a morph that has grown from a single polyp within his reef. It looks to have 10-12 adult polyps as well as some babies. Please let me know your thoughts, thanks!

No, zoas are zoas. It's retarded hype marketing that makes people think they're actually worth something or that they need to have them. Guess what, if you're not dumb enough to buy it, and the guy next to you isn't either, all of a sudden the prices come down.

I had to sell some zoas recently and felt like a douche for charging $5 a polyp before dropping it down to $3. To be honest I still felt crappy charging $3 pp. But, I could have taken a super macro, hyped the name as new to the hobby, and chop shopped them to 2 polyp $60+ frags because there are always people who think they're crack and need them. Long story short, what you can charge for something shouldn't be based on what the most gullible idiot on the planet would be willing to give you for them.
