So for awhile I thought my frogspawn was splitting, then I thought he wasnt, and Ive been going back and forth with this for awhile. It seemed to me that the mouth of the frogspawn was splitting. I finally got some pics of the mouth, while the lights were off. Sorry for the blurriness, but I had to get them quick while I could see the mouth. Anyways so what do you guys think?

I was wondering the same thing, but mine looks much further along. Perhaps this will give you an idea of what it might look like eventually.

eb8919, thanks for the pic. How long did it take yours to get that way? And how long did you have him before he started to split?

I have only had it for a month. When i bought it, it wasn't that large. So i believe it was already splitting, and then just continued nicely when i put it in my tank. I wish i could give you more accurate information, but i haven't been tracking its results. I'll keep updated on it and get another picture in a couple of weeks and see the difference.

i can tell you, i have had a hammer for about a year. started as 6 heads. i fragged 4 off and sold them... so i was down to 2. in a years time, i now have 8 full heads (more if you count them splitting). the pic eb8919 posted is exactly what mine look like when they split.

first you will notice the flesh under the actual tentacles will split. also the mouth area becomes elongated.. kind of like a cell splitting.

in the end, you will end up with 2 heads.

unless... your frogspawn is weird like my hammer. my hammer has 2 heads now... going through a 3 way split.

to complicate things even worse, you will sometimes see small buds forming off of a head. these are babies... which will become a full head in time, and will break off (or you can break them off) and start a new colony.
