Do you treat for ich/brooks as a precaution in QT?

I was wondering if anyone treated for things like ich, brooks, or internal parasites while the clowns are in QT as a precaution? Meaning, do you always treat, even if the fish are not showing any signs of infection/parasites? Anyone do this in order to prevent them from possibly taking over and then having to fight them off with meds after the fish is infected?

I treat with copper (Cupramine, specifically) while in QT as a preventative measure against ich and velvet.

Cupramine is what I was actually refering to. I recently was talking to someone who does this with all his frogfish and it made wonder if anyone did it with clowns considering how prone they are to having brooks...

I do, but the procedures I use vary depending on the species. I have found some types of clowns to not respond well to copper treatment, especially the A. Ephippium as I lost the pair when I put them in a qt with copper.
Whenever I get a new pair, I put them in a bare QT tank and within the first day of getting them I give them a formalin bath. I take about a gallon of tank water, more if they are bigger clowns, put in an airstone and put about 20 drops per gallon of 37% formalin, let it aerate for a few hours and then I put the pair in the bath for about an hour. I do this every other day about 3 to 4 times.
I also run a hyposalinity treatment at a sg of around 1.012 to 1.014. Then I keep them in that for a few weeks, then I slowly raise the sg to the display tank levels and then I remove the fish to the display.

I treated my clowns for Ich with simply hyposalinity. Effective, but easier to maintain proper levels and no chance of any harmful long term effects (i'm not sure it's ever been proven, but some think that copper treatment could leave clowns infertile.)

if you have anemones you need to seperate the sick clown and treat it with commercial treatments often at Petco.

I treat every fish I get with Cupramine, Maracyn II and Prazipro. First couple of weeks all clowns get Cupramine and a double dose of Maracyn II. Then after 4 weeks 5 days in Prazipro. Non clowns don't get the Maracyn II. If I see any indication of skin flukes during the Cupramine treatment I switch to Prazipro for 5 days.

All copper's aren't the same. Fish that I have seen not tolerate/die from normal copper medications do excellent in Cupramine. Copper sensitive fish like multicolor angels do excellent in Cupramine.

Why do you not use the Maracyn II on non-clowns... or, what is its use on clowns? Thanks.

Kevin: For some reason myself and others have had luck with "finicky" clowns, such as chrysopterus, when combining copper and Maracyn II. I have yet to have any chrysopterus get brook while being treated in this cocktail. I can't tell you how or why it works. It just does, or seems to.

I will treat non clowns with Maracyn if they show any signs of bacterial infections.
