Do Zoa's do ok in a SPS tank?

I have a full on 180g SPS tank. Now there are 3 or so Zoa colonies that worked there way in and one paly colony. The paly's do great but the zoa's are soso. They've spread and seem fine at times but often closed and not fully attached it seems. Is there a chemical attack going on from the SPS? Is that even possible? Could the lighting be too intense, I thought they liked that? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Been asking myself the same question lately, I am running a 285 gallon sps system and though in the early days zoas seemed ok ish it has been increasingly harder to keep them successfully. I am scratching my head at times as to why but wonder about domination by sps and if successful the low nutrient values of the water we keep.

I don't even do ultra low nutrients. Tried vodka, biopellets, NOPOX and found it all a PITA and always went back to my favorite method of doing nothing. The tank should be plenty dirty for Zoa's. I'm sure the SPS are killing them...

When we had a mixed reef we put out Zoos lower and On a big piece of base that jutted out. They did really well. The PITA wasnt getting them to grow with the acros. The pita was keeping them from spreading too much.

That and the brain coral i almost threw off my back porch when it put out 24in or so tenticles and stung the heck out of half the tank. It had been in the tank for over a year with no issue. One night it decided it wanted 1/3 of the tank to itself :hmm2:

over the years i seem to stay away from sertin species of palys that never seem to do well, however my zoas do fine, most in higher light then the sps.

Like SPS some Zoa's and Palys would take a liking, as some z's and P's LOVE high flow and uber highlight while some don't. If you acclimate the Z's and P's gradually to your SPS lighting you should do fine.

They've been in the tank for a couple years, the nice orange one hitched in. Just never flourishing, they also seem somewhat detached, if that rings any bells for anyone as a symptom of what may be wrong with them.

For me, some do well, others don't and melt... Jus happens that way I guess, lol... Soooo many variables, it's hard to tell what polyps will do good for one person, and not for the next...

Just had some Clementines melt on me, had some PE's that were near them now those not looking good... dipped in peroxide, probably too late. Both gonna be toast for me LOL

My Clementines are my biggest frustration. I have a mixed reef and see very good growth in SPS, LPS and softies so I don't think z&p have a problem in SPS tanks other than my My Clementines. I bought them with two polyps. After about a month or two there were 3 polyps then 4 polyps. I was excited to finally see some growth (my Rastas are growing much faster). Then two polyps never opened again. Grew a new polyp and then another one would never open. It seems to only have 3 polyps open and the ones that were open and now not open never open again. It is crazy.

How long is safe for a freshwater dip. I am willing to try this since nothing else seems to work for these.
