DOC 9005 Sump Kit Needed?

Do I need the sump kit to use the 9005 in a sump if the water level is at 10"? If the unit can work hanging inside a tank I don't understand why this kit would be needed if my water level is acceptable?

If the water level is deep enough to have the water up to the water level line on the exterior of the box then no, you do not need the sump kit.
