DOC 9010 v 9015

Hi,

My current tank is only small - 40 gallons. I was planning to buy a DOC 9010 but I'm also now considering the 9015.

I understand the basic difference between them (neck and cup size) but need help in deciding which model to buy.

The 9010 would be perfect for my current tank and will scale to a bigger (say 100 gallon) tank later.

But the 9015 seems to offer even more flexibility and the potential to scale to an even bigger tank, should I want one at a future time.

Am I right in my thinking that a 9015 can do all that a 9010 can do plus it will scale to a bigger tank?

Is there a minimum tank size for the 9015? Such that I should get the 9010 in my current 40 gallon tank as the 9015 is too big?

On my current 40 gallon tank, would the 9015 allow me to skim wet or dry - whichever takes my fancy?

Thanks for your help!

Get the 9010, the 9015 can only dry skim and you can just buy the bigger cup to make the 9010 a 9015 should you decide to, the net cost is the same.

Thanks for the advise.

One final question, if you buy the Foam Extraction Unit (9020.140) and run it on a 9010 can you then drive it harder and get the same kind of dry skim as a 9015?

It seems to me that if you were to add the Foam Extraction Unit to both a 9010 and 9015 you would end up with the both being the exact same skimmer. Is this correct?

This is really the ideal, it is just about 1" shorter. This lets you skim wet if you desire and I think the result is better. Yes, the result would be the same.
