Doctor64776's 400gallon Show 700gallon System

Nah I use the Kids like slave labor LOL the son inlaw is like a master woodwrker and he works on the woodwork for me the 16 yo. son helps with clean up from projects and I just had the 20yo. son paint the Fuge/prop/sw makeup stand I'll work on finishing that Part up here soon to post some more pics and the its the skimmers turn to shine ;)

Well OK heres is my excuse... The Tank, Skimmer, Sump and even makeup tank are plumbed and running.. The Sand is in the tank even :) But when I turned everything on a couple of problems arose.. Maybe you all can help? The sand is a VERY fine Carribean Argonite... I made a shallow bed in the tank that stands only 3" this has the sand level about 4" under the back ports for the OM.. When I turned it all on the first problem was Sandstorm! well that locked the OMs up.. so I had to EXTRACT the Drums... the drums are now out and everything is running at 1/2 power... all throttled back... But the tank remains Milky white from the sand even a week later... still have not added salt... I took and added some fitting to further raise the ports now about 7inches above the sand.. BUT the could remains.. I guess that I could just turn it all off and let it settle :(

???

Oh BTW I'll be in Little rock on the 11th to meet the Glass Cages Truck to pick up my new 29" X 56" X 13" rimmless Frag tank and also a standard 65 gallon Refugium

I'd go ahead and add the salt if I were you. You already have junk blowing around as it is -- why wait until it's gone, only to repeat the process when you add the salt? You might consider adding some live sand as well (after adding the salt), as this may increase the bacterial content of the sand and promote that invisible "film" of bacterial material that eventually keeps the sand at the bottom of our tanks. Not sure if this is any better than just being patient and waiting it out, but it's a thought. Personally I'd stick with the pumps at 1/2 power (maybe turn off 1 of the 3), although I'm not sure if the Darts are going to like that kind of back pressure??

Frag tank'll be sweet!

Good info Dudester... I think I will try that.. might as well be cycling things while I wait... and I had forgotten about the whole film thing.. that should help also... Paul at OM said to throttle the darts back he said they would be fine... They seem to handle it well...

Sorry Guys N Gals...

Tangers... Yes updates :)

I have been so very busy... Sales, Tank, My daughter graduated out of state, Trip to Little Rock to pick up the Support tanks, Finishing the actual Basement around the Reef Room la la la la

Anyway, Yes Dudester Best advice! Within 2 hours of adding the salt and live sand the skimmer kicked in and the tank was clear by morning... I have some pics of how its all going but just havent had time to get them into Photobucket yet... I have been wiring the Monster lights this week... 4X 400watt Lumenarc IIIs with 20k Radiums and 2X 4 Bank 54wt T5s.. a little over 2000 watts right now :) Just finished the Plenum in the fuge... The frag tank is awesome and up and running, Got it From Glass cages ...no lights on it yet though... and the whole thing is about 3 weeks old now... some nice brown diatoms on the sand surface and Last week I epoxied together a big live rock arch in the display.. it took up about 200lbs of the 500lbs for the display...

Yeah were still interested...Why did you put a Plenumin your fuge? I was thinking of putting 1 in on my new dispaly. No one on RC uses them. I have 1 in my 55 predator tank. On my 75 I just have about 3 in of sand. WHat are your views on using them in the display or fuge?
