Eddie was the guy who set me up with 400w 20kK MHs and he was right.
The meeting where Jeff distributed a few pieces of it was one of my first meetings.
I was pleased to have received a piece. I grew it out for a while and donated back the majority of it last year while keeping a few small (less than one inch) pieces for myself. I could spare one if I had to. It's a slow grower compared to some other Acros.
One of the neat things about having multiple pieces of the same specimen is being able to put them in different light or flow levels and seeing how that affects their growth and color. For me with A. carduus, the body pales and tips intensify in color with light.
Here's what it looked like when I donated most of it back to the club.
I have a small, slow growing deepwater frag which has survived my flatworms and heater poisoning. It could be my remains of A. carduus. Or A. echinata. Only time will tell!
That was the carduus. It had a different growth pattern than echinata. It was more "bottle brushy", and tended to form "mini flat hands", or groups of "fingers" in a similar plane. You can see that starting to happen on the upper right portion.
