I've been snorkeling around rocks and I've seen some nice fish but I have no idea how to catch them anybody catch their own fish ?

They make clear plastic nets for collecting fish, they sell them at most dive shops. You can also find them at marine consignment shops like the sailorman in ft Lauderdale. Don't expect to be able to catch a bunch of fish right away. It takes practice.

Do u know any good spots to catch some nice fish ?

Whatever you do be sure you research limits and species you are allowed to collect. You can't just go and pick whatever you see....unfortunately there are rules, regulations, and licenses required. Research Florida Fish And Wildlife.

+1

Also some areas don't allow collecting so do research on where you can go.

catching your own fish

You are limited in your selection if you snorkel. You may try to hook up with someone who has done this before. It is better with two people. The fish will try to hide under a rock when pursued. You will not catch the fish in mid water. You have to poke under his hiding place with a prod (tickle stick) and scare him into the net you have positioned. Some people will use drop nets over the rock and when the fish comes out and up he goes into the net. There are videos on line to guide you. Good Luck

I was diving in Little Cayman years ago. I was the only diver in the resort and at the time I dove a lot. The dive master collected fish for tanks. Once he found out I could handle myself, he asked if I minded him collecting while we dove; Of course not I'm just happy to be in the water.

He had a gun of sorts that sucked in. He would get it close to the fish and it would pull water in suddenly and if you did it right the fish with it. The fish ended up in a little container under the main tube. From there is was fairly simple to transfer it into another container for transport.

The part I didn't expect is how much work it was chasing fish all over the reef. It took a lot of fin action to keep up.

I am not sure how being sucked into a plastic tube is any more stressful than being chased by some one with a stick into a net. I'm thinking being trapped is being trapped no matter how it happens but if the experts say so I guess I'll believe.

A good old seine method for a few gill-net fish maybe that's less stressful. I might be wrong on how they do it. Not that i care if its frowned upon- if it's legal and thats how ya do it then slurp away. If hook and line was there you will score big off of Dania and keys. Good old sabiki tipped with squid and you will catch just about everything on that list and lionfish as well.
