does anyone breed maroons?

gemini aquarius(t)

Always Learning
i just got a large maroon clown and anenome for my main tank and i was wondering if anyone breeds them

could you five me any info on it how hard is it what tanks do you have for them and whatnot

thanks

i was also thinking of breeding b&w occys and perculas and regular occys and maybe a skunk or a tomato

sooner or later ill have a 1000 gallon system up for all them

(this will only happen when i get a paying job and when i have no life, which i dont have)

I am also thinking about trying my luck at breeding clowns... there is a pair of white stripe maroons for sale near me and I think I may pick them up and see what happens.

I know they are harder than true percs or ocellaris but still relatively easy compared to most marine fish.

Matt

If you want to raise clowns for fun maroons are just as good as any, but they tend to inflict more damage on each other growing out than amphiprion species. If you want to raise clowns with even the slightest hope of selling them at a profit then raise ocellaris. You will probably have to pay people to take excess maroons off your hands.

Just wondering.. what happens when you breed a normal maroon clown to a golden barred maroon? Do you get Het offspring? I happen to have a pair of them.

That is a good question, I have often wondered that. They are the same species with the gsm's simply being a "geographical variation" according to Wilkerson. I read through the section on maroons in Joyce's book and didn't find any info on crossing the two. I'm sure someone here has done it.

I dunno, gold clowns with maroon bars. :D
I don't know anyone who's tried it. If you do make sure you report back.

I remember a thread about this... I also have 2 pair with mixed barring. I have yet to try to raise any fry from them. Maybe I can use this thread as motivation.

I am surprised at this, I thought for sure that it would be fairly common knowledge. So now we are on a quest to find someone who has crossed the two? :D Oama must know ;)

Yes, strange isn't it? That it would seem that we haven't heard much about that in particular.
Oama will know.

Sorry to say, I have never dared to cross them. So I have no clue. Plus, we do not usually hold on to them long enough for the true gold bars to develope. That would take 12 months or more.

Ah...a new task for me. Hopefully my clowns will be in breeding condition by the time I finish last semester in uni. Hopefully I get maroon clowns with alternate stripes of white and gold. LoL!
