Does anyone have experience with 'black seahorses'?

This is just a guess, but I would say that is H. ingens.

Seahorses are very susceptible to stings by cnidarians (coral). They'll wrap their tail around anything, and if that thing happens to be a stinging coral the potential for harm (to the 'horse) is high.

thanks for the link, I've been looking for something like that, fortunately my seahorses and corals will each be getting their own tank anyways
 
They say the horse is tank bred but they aren't listing a species name... that is not a good sign. The stats also say reef compatible which is also not true. I wouldn't trust these horses. IME www.seahorsesource.com is by FAR the best place in the usa to purchase true captive bred seahorses. I believe they have southeren erectus and reidi available right now. You will have a much better experience with them.... Trust me
