And thanks for the tip with the ice, Bill. Assuming it wouldn't melt before it got down to my anemone. I'll have to give that a shot so I can get Matt his anemone!
thanks pickupman. so what i remember about diatoms might go something like this......if you are too lazy to use ro/di (which i am) then you will get diatoms when the tank is new due to the large vol of "new" water. they will go away when the Si has been converted to skeletons for the tomies and then they magically disapear as they no longer have a food source. is this even close to what happen or am i on crack? (commonstranger-you did not hear that).
Well, if you continue to not put RO/DI in you will always provide a food source. the water in middle TN STINKS. my TDS reads between 150 and 200 regularly. lots of phosphates and other that algae will thrive on. i didnt use RO/DI for 6 years in my tank. once I got my system, tank has really blossomed. rocked leaked phosphates for a year or two feeding a bubble algae bloom i had.
just measured my TDS at 64. Phosphate and silicate are not measureable in the 200gal of fresh saltwater. Amonia and nitrate are both zero and nitrates are around 0.1......keeping the fingers crossed
I would expect no nitrates and low phosphate in this part of the country, but your aren't testing for cholrine/Cholramine, Copper, flouride, etc...that is not good for your tank. RO/DI does alot more good and should always be used imo when possible.
I like the bulk reef supply packages. Very reasonable, work great, and they ahve really good and complete packges. they even have a new model that is smaller in size but still outputs 75gpd and it was very cheap for it's output.
well, 3 ice cubes and a little turkey baster and the anem is successfully off the rock and hanging in a baggie. Thanks for the tips guys! the others are a bit more difficult to get to but we will see when the time comes.
