Does anyone not use a cover on their tank?

I'm curious if there's anyone here that DOES NOT use a cover on their tank? Personally, I would never dare to not use a cover but it just looks so darn good without one, especially if you have a rimless tank.

I use egg crate because my cat is really clumsy. Hoping to switch to a screen cover when the cat has lived out her natural life (she's 16)
Jumping fish will prevent me from ever going completely topless.

I don't use covers on my canopied tanks. I made sure when I built my canopies they were too tall to jump out of. I do use covers on the eel tanks. And on the rimless I made a mesh cover that I have on when I'm not home and at night. I've noticed most fish jump when the lights are off. Haven't lost a critter yet (except suicidal snails)!

No cover. All three of my firefish jumped so I did not buy anymore. No problems with any of the other fish. Any cover would spoil my rimless in my opinion.

I use a cover on my rimless that sits inside of the rim. Hardly notice that it is there. I have picked my purple tilefish off of my desk and off of my floor while doing maintenance. No way I'd ever go without a mesh top.

I always had a built in tank, so any fish that tried to jump would just bounce of the wall and fall back into the tank. Since moving to a tank that sits against a wall, I absolutely would not run it without a screen top. OK, if I had a rimless I might not, but I don't really like that look, and on my rimmed tank the screen top is not obtrusive at all. I just don't want to lose fish for silly reasons.

No cover in 6+ years. I don't buy wrasse or other known jumpers. I feel I get more O2 exchange, the tank stays cooler and I like the look.

Can we get a pic and details? I have a 200g rimless and have had jumpers

No cover on my 40B but on my new tank currently being planned I will have a screen cover. I've never had a jumper but I really don't wanna risk it.

No cover. Went rimless for a reason and unfortunately it cost me a firefish and a orange stripe goby, but I can't bring myself to(IMO) ruin the look of a rimless tank.

all fish can jump, some more than others, but don't take that chance!

If you're remotely thinking about a cover, that's your intuition telling to you get one,

There's nothing worse than finding your non-jumper on the floor, all crispy...

I've noticed most fish jump when the lights are off.

I can't believe that many people would agree with this!
I have heard my screens 'bounce' from a fish jumping, when no one is even in that room, and it can happen at any time!

I love the look of the rimless tanks but would never have one because of jumper and after working in a lfs, I can vouch that just about any fish can jump. We've found every kind from dwarf angels, large angels, triggers, puffers, lion fish, damsels, tangs, and dragonets plus the usuals. Of course at home, we can minimize the reasons that they jump such as stress from aggressive tank mates and water quality much more efficiently that the mom & pop pet store that really didn't have any idea what they were doing. But again we can minimize it, not completely eliminate it. I've even had Hawkfish jump and die with a canopy because it landed on the center brace so I will forever have a mesh top.

The canopy can affect the temperature but the mesh top would have a zero negative affect. And I feel that the overflow into the sump, the surface agitation of the power heads and the skimmer (all of which I would have regardless of rimless or not), will handle any O2 exchange issue.

I hate to pick on Ssteve and Supra400hptt, but those were predictable jumpers and gets to heart of the debate of reef keeping vs responsible reef keeping when the aesthetics of the aquarium out way how we care for the inhabitants.

I love my rimless look with the screen top. I have had several fish bounce off the top. No one notices the screen unless I point it out.

Come on Brother, night frights are a big reason fish jump, and reason many give fish a night light especially during conditioning to captive life. Yes, I hear jumping all throughout the day too, just don't dismiss night jumping.

Bro,
Who dismissed night jumping?
The man stated the following...

THAT is what I disagreed with!...
as for 'night frights', I would guess that if there is such a thing, it would be caused by activity outside the tank, and I, personally, see little value in night lights preventing jumping.
