Does anyone QT this way?

Also to clarify when I was talking about freshwater dip I meant bath. So a "freshwater bath" of 5-10 minutes would not kill anything. What are the opinions

Previously answered. I suppose if you ask long enough you will find someone to agree with you.

I agree the parasites are embedded and freshwater won't do much even for 5 minutes. 10 minutes is pushing it on the fish side and may effect homeostasis, imo. A marine fish needs to maintain an internal salinity of 1.008 and is not equipped to move fluids out that diffuse in when it's in water of lower sg.
Fresh water may give temporary relief for some velvet and some surface parasites if the gills are clogged for example .My guess is that by the time you killed an embedded parasite the fish would also be dead. A bath with fromalin mixed with tank water for 40 to 50 minutes is safer and likely to be much more effective, ime.

I don't know how long the acid salts like sodium hydroxymethanesulfonate and others used in amquell or other detoxifiers hang around . Granulated activated carbon should help remove some of them.
I just won't use them with bound copper. I won't use them with a free form copper med ( like copper sulfate) either from and abundance of caution, though the risk with these should be less. Seachem is real clear about prohibbiting their use with Cupramine.
Copper comes in many organic and inorganic types and changes form in the tank water as it is. Mixing in agents designed to break and create bonds is precarious, imo Since we don't know everything that's in the copper med; nor everything in the detoxifier; but do know both rely on and effect organic binding , it's best to not use them together at all, imo.. There have been reports of lethal results.

Not trying to ask the same question hoping for a different answer. Just trying to communicate it the correct way to get the correct answer from you guys. The sound advice you guys offer can only come if I ask the correct question. You have been a wealth of knowledge, and your explanations have given me a much stronger understanding on this subject.
On this thread WWM was cited, and for years that website advocates freshwater baths. Bob corrected me via e-mail when I said "dip", and I wanted to make sure I clarified that with you guys. Just wanted to make sure that you guys did not think I was talking about dipping the fish for a minute. I agree if you torture the data long enough you can twist, and interpret whatever you want. This is not my goal. Just want to understand more of the threshold, and rationale as to why you believe what you do. Thank you to all, and TMZ thanks for a little more of the science as the 1.008 helps me to explain why hyposalinity works, but not freshwater.

I wish we had toxicology analysis of the meds we use.... risk/benefit. We have a lot of great case studies from experience, but nothing hard that tests it out. Well you can't put a price on experience!
