Does anyone use a Carlson Surge Device or "Toilet Flapper" Surge Device

Just seems wierd, I never hear anyone talk about a
Carlson Surge Device and "Toilet Flapper" Surge Device anymore.

I built one before. Pretty easy to do. Just find it interesting that there isn't much 'word' about it anymore.

If anyone has built one, how about some pics?

For my crazy DIY project of the year I am in the process of building a tank with three of the Borneman surges on it. The plumbing so far has been....intresting. ( Read: Extremely frustrating)

Ill try to get some pictures up tommarow

One time on a ten gallon tank, I made a bornman work flalessley by a fluke. I dont know how.... But the one with the toilet flush valve works perfect every time!

I just built a toilet flusher but it's not installed yet. So far the testing I've done in the bathtub have turned out great. Quiet with no bubbles and a really strong surge (about 4 gallons).

yeah, i'd love to see pics of someone's setup. i've akways been interested, but never seen one outside of a public aquarium.

just a 29 gal aga drilled w/input and bulkhead in left hand side feed by a powerhead. then theres a peice of glass silicone at an angle almost to the very top of the tank where the water runs over in the right hand side compartment where there is a toliet flapper which has a float attached and every couple of minutes the float pops and it surges big time. its been up and running for about 3 years now I need to pull all the macro out and clean house long over do the one thing I need to do is to get this set up
perfect is to get the main tank drilled so I can run a sump and skimmer.

I had a carlson surge on my last set up. I was unhappy with it for the most part. Made lots of noise and some micro bubles. I latter installed 2 motorized ball valves on ether side of the surge and got very good results. They just were not cheap.

How much do motorized ball valves cost? I've got two 20 gallon surge devices I'd like to use on a 375gallon tank and don't want bubbles.

i'd be interested in setting up one of these one day... doesn't seem like it would fit all that well on my 26 gallon SPS tank though :(

it would totall screw with my small (10 gal) sump and autotopoff.

someday...
