Does anyone use an unmodded ASM skimmer?

I just purchased an ASM G3 and I am curious how many in the community actually use them without any mods.

I was debating starting out with the base configuration and then making the mods. Is this a mistake?

Most likely I will only make the gate valve mod if needed.

just got mine last Thursday only mod was gate valve. Works great. Took 12 hrs. to pull skim.

I had a G2 and used it box stock. It worked very well. No mods needed.

Thanks for the responses - I guess it is not a bad idea to try it in default configuration first and mod later if needed.

I have a G3 that I have run with no mods and with both mods. If it does what you need without the recirc mod I'd pass on that one but IMO not doing the gate valve mod is crazy.

I have an un modded ASM G3 and it skims the snot out of my 55 gal w/ 40 gal sump.

I usually have to leave it off for 20 minutes after feeding to avoid the unit going nuts.

I ran my G2 unmodded for a couple months, but then switched it to direct feed with recirc. and it doubled skimmate production. Either way they are good skimmers.
