i have crushed coral in my 120 and it's been like 6 or so years since set up...i'm trying to get this tank back on track do you think i should pull it out and replace it with sand...?

depending on the size of the crushed coral you may want to go with smaller grained sand. It will be easier to keep clean. I like carib sea oolitic.

doesn't need to be removed, but it could help w/ water quality if it was removed.

as long as you vacume the cc on a regular basis I wouldnt think it would be a problem

If it were mine, I'd do it. Id get a box-form of some sort [you can make it from slitted plastic,] section off about a 6x6 area, siphon that clean, add new sand, and then take out the box-form. I'd do that just next to that site on the 3rd day, and so on until I'd pretty well gotten the cc out of there and the new sand colonized by the bacteria. If you proceed slowly you can do it without provoking a cycle.
