Does Salt Go Bad???

Hello Everyone,

I am sure this question has been asked before, but everytime I try to do a search I get a server busy error. Anyway, I have about 2/3 of a pail of IO Salt. I beleive the salt may have been exposed to moisture of some kind. Does the salt go bad or worsen when this happens? Thanks for all your help!!

Yes, because when exposed to moisture in the concentration of the salt mix, calcium carbonate can form (brick hard clumps) which then makes the salt unusable as calcium carbonate does not dissolve in normal tank water.
This is another reason why you never want to add the water to the saltmix when making up a batch but instead, add the salt to a full bucket of your freshwater source to avoid concentrating the salt mixture in the presence of water.
