Does Surface Agitation Block Light Penetration?

Just like the title says. Interested to hear everyone's input. I have a great deal of flow w/ lots of surface ripples and waves. Does this scatter the incident light so less penetrates the water?

What do you think?

I dont have a scientific answer for that, but basically no. The amount of surface agitation has little or no impact on light penetration. Waves don't stop the sun and i've never heard of someone having lighting issues due to aggressive surface agitation. You definitely need surface agitation to stabilize your ph. But it shouldn't be spilling out the tank either. I've always been told that the top of the water should look like a soft boil.

I think it just bends and twists the light; unless there is foam or lots of bubbles.

It does make a difference but it's irrelevant in the long run.
Many times it could be even beneficial to corals.
Surface agitation is good! No worries.

surface agitation should be one of a reefkeepers goals when setting up a reef aquarium

even the most wicked agitation (I use a Vortech MP60) will have minimal impact on REDUCTION of light penetration

rather than BLOCK light penetration, it SCATTERS it
