Does your Peacock Mantis(Or mantis in general) sleep/clean itself on its back?

So I picked up a Peacock Mantis today. I acclimated it and added it to my nano cube in an observation box. I just want to make sure nothing odd happens in the first day and then not be able to pull it out if need be.

Anyways, night rolls around and I see it laying on its back, cleaning itself...in a sleeping mode. Is this normal or do I need to take action?

I see it has righted itself...maybe dreaming of another opportunity to smash someones hand like the LFS worker today.

On a side note, after he was 'bagged' he proceeded to smash 3 holes in the bag spilling out almost all of the water. That was a good laugh as the LFS kid just looked at me in shock. "Can I get that double bagged this time?"

Yea I bet that laugh paid for the Mantis before you even left the store.

I don't have a Peacock, but my N.wenn always sleeps on his side.

my smithii seems to roll around alot... i dont know about sleeping but you have to remember they are not like fish, they dont have swim bladders... s/he is a beautiful animal! those eyes, they are so big!

My mantis (not a peacock, not sure what kind he is) usually lounges on his back while he's in his cave. Now that I think of it he spends most of his time laying on his back. The only time he rights himself is when something outside of his cave catches his interest or when he eats. He's a bit of a lazy bum. :rolleye1:
