Don’t Neglect Your Tank Kids

Went on vacation to the lake for a week mid-July. Did a water change right before we left. Got back and got lazy, doing outside stuff, taking the boat out on the Mississippi, etc.

Anyway, I didn’t do any water changes (stupid, I know) since mid-July. Finally cleaned the glass yesterday, it was covered in algae, to find I lost my Bird of Paradise Birdsnest and my Red Planet frag. Cyano all over the tank. Surprisingly (or not) the Rics and Zoas are looking great.

NO3 was off the charts, PO4 0.06. Did a water change yesterday, another today and put the GFO/Carbon reactor online.

Things are looking better today.

GUILTY. I knew I was going to Hemm when I built this system. Keep hoping I will get better. HAHAHA.
I haven't done a test or a water change in recent history. I correct the salinity and fill the dosers.

Nice plating Monti.

Thanks. I am here every day. I dont say anything but I read. I know I kept small tanks. I have very little memory of what I did day to day with them. Those 5 dollar frags and the couple of grab bags I picked up have gone a long way. The Blue ridge was $5. I remember it felt like a piece of plastic. I could not believe it was alive. I have big buckets of it now. The euphyllia were single heads long ago from Live Aquaria. So was the tiny smear of Xenia. I need to root half of that out. I made a big system I can imprecisely through stuff into when I get around to it. In my mind I will catch up someday but I am not betting money on when.
Another knee replacement soon. That will shut me out until next year. The last one was hard. Low T. made PT almost kill me. No new strength, just pain. 2 more parts of me lost on the way. I am giving myself IM testosterone shots for that now. Steps are getting easier.

The 4 engineer gobies have doubled in size and arent tiny anymore. They look like small eels. I found a nem in the weeds I ripped out. I put him in a cup for the night with a rock in it. Tomorrow I will look for the coral banded shrimp.
All the forums I was on say people left for Facebook. There isn't any knowledge on Facebook. I looked. I dont know where they went. Nice pics but not much more there. Lots of incomprehensible Hydros discussion. One post said there is a manual someone made going on 900 pages now. I found that hard to believe but didn't go looking for it. Hydros has done most of the work for me.
Watching your ORP and pH on Hydros tells you almost nothing and yet it tells you everything. Steady means the same. Changing means something did. Go see what.

I am rambling. Lots of good drugs here. Legal ones from doctors. 3 controlled substances. Probably some new ones tomorrow for a nebulizer. Keeping it going. The less I do anything to my tanks the better they do. I knew old timers that used to say that. I guess I am one now.

Summer is always hard on reefers with other hobbys, family, etc. Fall/Winter always seems to give the tanks the attention they deserve. That is, unless you are an obsessed maniac like me and it never turns off.....

Virus no one has heard of with bad lungs. 5 more Rxs. BP 170/100. Nice ER visit. BP was normal again once they restored my ventilation.
Back home now. I am in fact fine until morning. Breathing treatments for a while. New inhaler, more steroids 4th kind, antibiotics. I have enough drugs here to fill a large paper grocery bag now.
You dont see doctors here now. Just PAs. I scare them to death. Not a simple health history to speed read.
Stuff that could be bad, but isnt. I have had all of it a long time and have had regular visits for those things. It's all there now when they look.

Just too mean to die.

Take care my friend. Thoughts and prayers sent your way.
